Westminster-Maria (Maillett) Bastarache, 84, of Westminster, formerly of Burlington, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, October 15, 2018 in The Highlands, Fitchburg, surrounded by her family.
Maria was born April 11, 1934, in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Arthur and Azelia (LeBlanc) Maillett. She has lived in Westminster the past 28 years with her beloved husband of 64 years, Edward J. Bastarache.
Besides her husband, Maria is survived by her five children; Denise Corcoran and husband Robert of Billerica, MA, Shirley Bernoth and husband William of Ayer, MA, Michael Bastarache and wife Donna of Leominster, MA, Yvonne Bastarache Richards of Derry, NH and Lea Acone and her husband Christopher of Billerica, MA; seven grandchildren, George Morse, Alicia Bongiovanni, Jayson Bastarache, Jessica Richards, Alexi Richards, Ryan Acone and Abby Acone; four great-grandchildren, Emma Bongiovanni, Olivia Bongiovanni, Michaella Morse and Anthony Bongiovanni; and several nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada. Maria was predeceased by three brothers, Alonzo Maillett, Leo Paul Maillett and Gerald Maillett.
Maria was a long-time member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, Westminster and the Westminster Senior Center. She was extremely active and passionate about the church and the senior center. She was an avid bingo player and traveled to many churches and senior centers to play. She was a talented crafter as well. Maria loved to sew, knit and crochet. Maria was giving of her time and enjoyed volunteering at Crocker Pond Recreational Area.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10am in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Corner of Knower and Ellis Rd. Westminster. There are no calling hours.
