Fitchburg-Florence Irene (Parkhurst) Kelley, 93, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Golden Living Center in Fitchburg.
Her husband, H.J. Bud Kelley died on March 11, 1991.
She leaves three children, Jane Kelley and her partner Victor Kudrikow of Amherst, Mike Kelley and his wife Patricia of Fitchburg, and John Kelley and his wife Tamson of Gardner; six grandchildren, Sara Ross, Adria Raphael, Tracey Holden, Stephen Kelley, Thomas Kelley, and Chelsea Kelley; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Florence was also predeceased by three sisters, Mildred Williams, Eleanor Hennemann, and Betty Fletcher.
She was born in Fitchburg on February 14, 1924, a daughter of the late Harlan Boardman and Ethel Ivy (Bolt) Parkhurst. She was a 1941 graduate of Fitchburg High School. Florence worked as a secretary for Crocker Burbank from 1942 to 1950. She served for 45 years as an officer, Corporate Clerk and Secretary of Kelley Wood Products, Inc.
Florence volunteered at Burbank Hospital, the Visiting Nursing Association and the Fitchburg Historical Society. She served as the secretary for the Republican City Committee, the Cedar Street Home and for the Parsonage Committee of the Calvinistic Congregational Church. She was also a member of the Faith United Parish in Fitchburg for over 20 years and served as Secretary for the Bakers Grove Association in Westminster.
Florence enjoyed working around her home, gardening and watching candlepin bowling. She was an intense Scrabble competitor and earned points as a Bridge Master. She loved going on trips with Bud, dining at the Fay Club, and spending summers lakeside in Baker Grove on Wyman Lake.
Florence’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Golden Living Center’s 3 west Unit for their special care of her.
A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.
