Barbara E. Manninen

November 8, 1919 ~ December 1, 2017 (age 98)


Westminster-Barbara E. (Aher) Manninen, 98, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Heywood Hospital after an illness.

Her husband of 50 years, Aulis “Ollie” Manninen died on January 7, 1999.

Barbara leaves one son, Wendell P. Manninen of Westminster; one sister-in-law, Blanche Aher of Ocala, FL; two nephews, Chris Aher of WA, Billy Aher of NY; four nieces, Susan Walliser of TX, Catherine Aher-Costa, Jackie Rue of NJ, Susan Stockdale of NH; and two grandnieces, Amanda Sadowski of Chicago and Kimberley Krist of CT.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Patrick F. Aher Jr. and John T. Aher.

Barbara was born in Gardner, on November 8, 1919, a daughter of the late Patrick F. Aher Sr. and Mary A. (Columbus) Aher. She was a graduate of Gardner High School and worked as a Secretary for the former Weyhauser Paper Co. in Fitchburg.

She was an avid reader, a member of the Forbush Memorial Library Book Club, the Westminster Friendship Club, the Westminster Senior Center and St. Edward the Confessor Parish.

Barbara’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knower and Ellis Roads, Westminster, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Church Building Fund, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA 01743.

The Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA. has been entrusted with Barbara’s funeral arrangements.
