William “Bill” Benedict, 57 years old, father, grandfather and US Marine Veteran, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

William “Bill” Benedict, 57 years old, father, grandfather and US Marine Veteran, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA, August 7th, 1963 and was predeceased by his father Paul Benedict. Bill is survived by his mother, Rose (Lastella) Stites of Smithfield, NC; one daughter, Sarah (Benedict) Danevich and her husband David of Raleigh, NC, one son Jeffrey Benedict, of Townsend, MA; one sister, Bonnie (Benedict) Arsenault and her husband Norman, of Jacksonville, NC; one brother, Tony Benedict and his wife Lisa, of Durham, NC; one granddaughter Penelope Danevich; and many lifelong friends.

Following his graduation from Lunenburg high school, Bill spent a short time in the Army reserves. He then served honorably as a US Marine from 1983 to 1988, including a tour as a Senior Drill Instructor Sergeant at MCRD San Diego, California, where he led the training of over 500 recruits. 

Following his time in the Marines he joined the corporate ranks, spending most of his time with Digital Equipment Corporation, now known as Hewlett-Packard, and in his final 5 years, he contributed his leadership to Wipro, then Dell Technologies.

He was a very active and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hiking, marksmanship and off-road four-wheeler excursions in all parts of the country. He enjoyed world-wide travel, classic cars-especially mustangs, and studying military history. From his earliest years, he was especially interested in World War II history, to include learning about specific battles, campaigns and military hardware.  Among all these things, he enthusiastically embraced life, was dependable, hardworking and intelligent.

Throughout his working life, he excelled at everything he did and was a natural leader who was respected by coworkers, subordinates and superiors alike.  

Services for Bill are being organized and will be held locally later in the spring.

Bill’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Massachusetts Ave. Lunenburg.
