Westminster- Stuart C Butterfield, 93 of Westminster, MA, passed away on October 26th, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.
Stuart was born in Northbridge, MA to Vance L. and Doris Butterfield on July 2nd, 1928. He married his wife, A. Linnea (Hintala) on April 16th, 1949. They remained inseparable until her death in 2017. They did extensive traveling with good friends and enjoying family at their home.
Stuart worked for Simplex Time Recorder Company for almost 40 years. He held a number of responsible positions within the company, retiring in 1990 as General Manager of the Fabrication and Machining Departments.
He was a man of many talents from cutting all the logs for lumber to build his home he lived in since marriage, to masonry, auto mechanics, welding, etc. He passed on many of his many skills to his family over the years. In retirement he enjoyed hunting, golf, billiards, wood carving and traveling.
Stuart served on the Town School Committee from 1957 to 1963 where he was chairman of the Oakmont Regional High School Building Committee guiding the building of the school that serves Ashburnham and Westminster. In 1970, he was asked to help the Oakmont High School Expansion Committee which he served until the building was complete.
He also coached Westminster Little League for a number of years. He told stories that during WW2, he served on the State Guard and Westminster Fire Department when he was only 15 years old, because the older men were serving our country.
Stuart is survived by his son, Vance A Butterfield (Sandra) and his daughter, Nadine L. Connor. He had four grandchildren, Kyle S Butterfield (Charissa), Alyssa Gonzalez (Bryan), Heather Willyard and Stephanie Wrona (Dan), six great grandchildren, Riley and Kallie Butterfield, Mason, Deacon and Phoenix Gonzalez, and Bailey Willyard. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Robinson and nieces and a nephew.
There will not be any calling hours at Stuart’s request. Memorial contributions can be placed with any charity of the donor’s choice in his name. Burial will be held privately. Stuart’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for all of his caregivers, who not only took wonderful care of him but always brought him great joy.
