Westminster-Shirley Mae (Drown) Barrett, 94, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, May 20, 2021 in Holyoke Health Care after an illness.
Shirley was born in Orange, MA on March 19, 1927 a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Ostrander) Drown. Her beloved husband Leo “Joe” Barrett predeceased her on September 20, 2103.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her four children, Rosemary Barrett, and her husband, Kevin Macdonald, of Holyoke, Janice Cormier, and her husband, Steven, of Huntington, MA, Patricia Lewis, and her husband, Steven, of Rochester, NH and James "Jimmy" Barrett, and his wife Joanne, of Gardner; six grandchildren, Joe Sherman, Ivy Mabius, Christine Pellegrini, Gregg Cormier, Sam Barrett and Brad Barrett; nine great-grandchildren, Kamryn Barrett, Andrew Pellegrini, Adrian Pellegrini, Max Mabius, Grady Pellegrini, Rylan Mabius, Isaac Barrett, Joseph Sherman and Teddy Sherman; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by one grandson, Jeffrey Roy and her four siblings; Charles A. Drown, Jr., Warren Drown, Mansfield Drown and Mary Bowers.
Shirley was a longtime member of St. Edward the Confessor Church. She was a former member of the Ladies Guild of the Church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Gardner. Shirley worked on the farm with her husband where they built home, their barn and their family. Shirley and Joe also fostered 50 children with loving care. Shirley was also an extremely talented artist. She loved to oil paint, garden, sew, and be creative.
Visiting hours will be held in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main St. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 4-7PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday June 11, 2021 with a funeral Mass in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St. Westminster, MA at 10AM. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Westminster
