Robert Francis Gibbons

Lunenburg-Robert "Bob" Francis Gibbons passed away unexpectedly in the UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

   Bob was born on July 11, 1945, in San Diego, California. He was the son of the late Henry Raymond and Arline Frances (Hall) Gibbons and the beloved husband of Donna L. Gibbons for 41 years. Bob grew up in Lowell, MA and attended Lowell High School, graduating the Class of 1963. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts/Boston where he received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Upon graduation, Bob began his professional career as a technical writer. He later combined his knowledge of mathematics and his ability to speak Spanish fluently to become a high school bilingual math and science teacher. After teaching Bob continued his education in Computer Science, later starting his own business consulting as a software engineer for major pharmaceutical companies. He retired in 2011.

   For the past 35 years, Bob has been a resident of Lunenburg where he raised his three sons. He enjoyed working out at his boxing gym, traveling around the world and spending time with his family.  Bob was very close to his grandchildren, watching them five days a week.

   Besides his wife, Bob is survived by his four sons, James R. Gibbons of Lowell, MA, Eric W. Gibbons of Lunenburg, MA, Michael J. Gibbons and his wife Jillian of Leominster, MA and Sean C. Gibbons of Quincy, MA; two grandchildren, Isla M. and Owen M. Gibbons; his brother Michael H. Gibbons and his wife Pat of El Cerrito, CA; and his sister, Margaret K. Gibbons of Newton, MA.

   All Services for Bob will be held privately.

   The Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Lunenburg Chapel of the Funeral Homes, 763 Mass Ave., has been entrusted with the care of Robert’s arrangements.
