Kenneth Richard Krauss Jr.

January 17, 1963 ~ May 21, 2022 (age 59)

BILLERICA – It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Richard Krauss Jr., 59, of Billerica, MA, who passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, May 21, 2022. He had a powerful presence of gentle strength, the kindest heart and a loud, big persona with an unending commitment to the love for his family. He always “had our backs.”

Kenneth was born on January 17, 1963, in Springfield, MA. Affectionately known as “Kenny” or “Kenny Ritchie.” Kenny's life and experiences started and ended in Massachusetts, with time spent in New York, Ohio and Germany but Massachusetts was where his roots and family were, Massachusetts was his home. Kenny’s youth was highlighted by being a member of the 1980 Super Bowl Championship Football Team at Ayer High School. After graduating, he joined the US Air Force and crafted his expertise as a very skilled maintenance and quality control technician, as well as a collaborative leader and trainer. He was also very proud of being a member of the highly trained experts that make up the Air Force Special Warfare, Pararescue team. He was appointed to noncommissioned officer and went on to receive several awards as Noncommissioned Officer of the Month. His career took him from the USAF, to supporting business operations with his mechanical and technical expertise and ultimately to owning his own residential improvement business. Kenny took great pride in all he did and enjoyed sharing his knowledge. For his last six years, Kenny had been a contributing member at the Jabil Healthcare facility in Clinton, MA. He took great pride in his work and loved the people he worked for and with. He always said they were a great team.

Kenny had an amazing talent to create the unexpected with his love for drawing, painting, woodworking, cars and engine repairs, as well as remodeling homes. He could build and fix anything and was unapologetic about being a perfectionist who did not cut corners and worked with such passion. He was the first HGTV Remodeling Expert – BEFORE there ever was an HGTV! His other passion was cooking, and we will never forget the amazing meals he would prepare, especially his Christmas Prime Rib Dinner. He would spend hours preparing it and we would spend hours enjoying it.

Kenny’s life partner for over 20 years, Nancy Kelley, is someone he truly appreciated for her love and devotion. Kenny is survived by his mother and stepfather, Bonny and Kenneth MacLean; his father and stepmother, Kenneth Krauss Sr. and Maureen; and his two children, Eric James Krauss and Megan Marie Reed and her husband, Ellery.

In addition, Kenny’s modern family includes his sisters, Heidi B Krauss Keathley, Kristen Femino and her husband, Steven and Jessica Speer and her husband, Rick; his brothers, Todd Krauss and his wife, Sophea, Roger Gray and his partner, Vikki Contreras and Daniel Krauss and his wife, Jacqueline.

Last but most especially, his grandchildren, Aliyk, Skylah, and Jesse Krauss; and his nieces and nephews, Angelo and Ashley Femino, Jack Krauss, Daniel and Lilly Krauss, Sage Speer, Michael, Danny and Sarah Shank, Samantha, Jordan, Zachary and Abigail Lynn, and Amber Figelski.

Finally, Kenny is survived by his stepbrother, Scott MacLean and many uncles, aunts, cousins and close friends whom he considered to be family as well.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.

His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 11:00AM.

Private burial will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
