John Wirta, 68
Beloved Father and Grandfather
Fitchburg-John Wirta, 68, died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose after an illness.
He leaves three sons, Jeffrey E. Wirta, Matthew E. Wirta and Nathan J. Wirta; four grandchildren, Ashley Wirta, Julia Wirta, Jake Wirta and Preston Wirta all of Connecticut; as well as many friends.
John was born in Fitchburg on December 13, 1952, a son of the late Everett C. and Edna Sophia (Ranta) Wirta. He attended B.F. Brown Middle School where he ran track and later graduated from Fitchburg High School. John was a master carpenter. His talent was featured in Woman’s Day magazine for a home he had built. He was a longtime member of the Elm Street Congregational Church. He enjoyed playing the drums, was an avid baseball card collector and enjoyed James Bond movies. In his high school yearbook, John said he identifies as Ginger Baker. John also collected albums and was a frequent skier.
John’s funeral will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 12 noon in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
There will be a calling hour from 11:00 – 12 Noon in the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
Social distancing and the use of masks are required.
