John Robert Devereaux, 82
Beloved Father, Revered Grandfather, Loving Brother and Uncle.
Leominster - John Devereaux went home to the Lord and reunited with his bride, Sue-Ann, on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 with his family by his side.
He leaves his seven children and their spouses, Lee and Mark Haschig of Westminster, Lisa and Carl Jackson of Billerica, Lynne and Michael Karagianes of Chelmsford, John Devereaux of Groton, Sean and Jennifer Devereaux of Franklin, TN, Bryan and Sheila Devereaux of Groton, and Erin and Ryan Eaton of Ashburnham.
As if having seven children wasn’t enough, John and his children always considered Susan Wojtowicz to be the eighth.
John was a dedicated family man, always putting his family first, often sacrificing in order to provide for them. Through his example he taught them the value of hard work, the importance of family, and most of all the love of Jesus.
He was so proud to be a grandfather of TWENTY-THREE grandchildren; Kevin, Morgan, Emily, Ashley, Elena, Kalliope, Katherine, John Michael, Parker, Mia, Andrew, Johnny, Leah, Abbie, Joey, Sydney, Jack, Zoe, Skylar, Ella, Summer, Charlie, Sawyer. He also had 3 great-grandchildren; Alex, Logan and Camden. Grandpa would always have a mint (“Papa Mints”) at-the-ready to sneak into the hands of any of his beloved grandkids.
John was predeceased by his siblings Mary Trant, Joseph Devereaux, Edward Devereaux, and Charlie Devereaux. He leaves behind his sister Barbara Kendall of Naples, Florida and many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
John was born in Somerville on September 20, 1938. He graduated from Somerville High School and after completing an apprenticeship at Raytheon, went on to work at Polaroid until he retired in 2002. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fitchburg, often serving as a board member. He was a charmer who, whenever asked how he was, would humbly respond with: “pretty close to perfect”.
He will forever be missed by the enormous family he created with his wife Sue-Ann and ex-wife Gail Jackson until they are all reunited in Heaven. We love you so much and are so happy that after a long journey, you have finally achieved perfection.
Services for John will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church (750 Rindge Road, Fitchburg, MA) on Saturday, May 29th. Calling hours will be from 9:30am to 10:15am with funeral service and reception immediately following at 10:30 AM. Flowers for the family may be sent directly to the church.
