FITCHBURG- Jane Louise (Dickinson) Egan died peacefully in her sleep at home following ongoing health issues on Sunday, March 7, 2021, six years to the date of her husband Bob’s passing. Jane was born April 4, 1940 in Fitchburg, MA to the late Ernest L and Beatrice (Miller) Dickinson.
Jane graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1958, The Burbank Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1959 and Mount Wachusett Community College (AS Nursing) in 1982. She was a registered nurse and during her career held a variety of positions. She worked at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Franklin County Hospital, Burbank Hospital, Emerson Hospital, Diversified Visiting Nursing Association, The Highlands Adult Day Health Care, Appleton Corporation (Joseph House), Adult Day Health Center at The Manor on the Hill and Montachusett Home Care Corporation.
Some of Jane’s passions included traveling with her late husband and also with friends. She traveled to many European countries including some of her favorites, England, Scotland, and Ireland. She also travelled to Australia and all over the United States. Jane and her late husband loved spending part of the winters in Florida. Another passion was playing bridge in MA and FL.
Jane had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She believed that laughter was the best medicine. Her sense of humor was such that she actually wrote her own obituary to make sure we got it right!
Family was very important to Jane especially her son, Robert J. Egan II of Little Mountain, SC and her daughter, Meghan Egan-Omogi of Winthrop, MA. Grammy Jane had 3 grandchildren, Brianna (Egan) Denson and her husband Robert of Chapin, SC, currently stationed in Germany with the US Air Force, Robert J Egan III and his significant other Taylor Irick of Columbia, SC, and Mikaela (Egan) Moore and her husband Benjamin of Haymarket, VA and 3.5 great-grandchildren, Blane and Nora Denson, Olivia Moore and Grayson who is expected April 2021.
She is survived by her brothers, Arnold C. Dickinson and his wife Nancy of NH, James F. Dickinson and his wife Rena of CO, Roger A Dickinson and his wife Mary of NH and a sister Kathleen Albert of MA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert J Egan, her brothers, Ernest, John, Delwin, Kenneth and her sisters, Beverly M. Phelps and Constance Clarence.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
