Herdis Thompson, 71
Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother
Herdis (Johannesdottir) Thompson, 71 of Lunenburg, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon June 2, 20121 in UMass Memorial Healthcare after a lengthy illness. Herdis was born in Isafjord, Iceland on March 6, 1950 a daughter of the late Johannes Bjarnarson. and Hjaltlina S.Agnarsdottir. She was also predeceased by two of her brothers. She attended schools in Iceland before she began working. She met her husband Allyn C. Thompson during his time in the service. They were married in 1969 and permanently settled in Lunenburg 49 years ago.
Besides her husband Allyn, Herdis will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Cary A. Thompson of Leominster, Hjaltlina April Thompson of Lunenburg and Sonja L. O’Brien of Greenville, NH; three grandchildren, Jolie O’Brien, Stephen O’Brien and Matthew E. Thompson; as well as four sisters, a brother and their respective spouses, many nieces and nephews and a large extended family in Iceland and the US.
Herdis and Allyn made their home in Lunenburg where Herdis dedicated herself to raising her children. She truly made her house their home. She took great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. Herdis was an avid gardener. She enjoyed camping and her yearly trips to the ocean in Maine.
