George J Schmitt, Jr

December 15, 1953 ~ October 26, 2021 (age 67)

Fitchburg- George J. Schmitt, Jr. 67, a longtime resident of Fitchburg, and formerly of Lunenburg,
passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday October 26, 2021 in
Health Alliance Hospital, Leominster.

George was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, a son of the late George and Carmela
Schmitt. He was the beloved husband of Gina (Kim) Schmitt whom he married on December 30,

He attended high school in Connecticut at Norwich Free Academy. Right out of high
school, George enlisted in the Army.  During his career in the United States Army, George obtained the rank of Sargent and
was honorably discharged from his military duty. After his time in the military George worked for
many years in the Logistics Department of defense. He had an outstanding work ethic and he
cared deeply for his fellow Veterans working humbly with homeless Veterans in need.
George also had a career as a patient observer at UMass University Campus and
touched the lives of many staff and patients.

In his spare time, George loved to go fishing. It was his passion which he shared with
everyone. He also enjoyed going to church with his wife Gina. George especially treasured his
time with his family and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren they called Papa. He could always
be heard telling corny “dad jokes”. He was truly loved by his wife, children and grandchildren
and will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife of 46 years George will be lovingly remembered by his children,
Steven Schmitt and Fozia Khan, David Schmitt and his wife Meagan, Christina Schmitt and his
six grandchildren, Alizabeth, Laylah, Olivia, Leland, Ayden and Tyris. Along with many nieces
and nephews and many dear friends. George was predeceased by his sister Theresa Olivier
and survived by her husband William Olivier.

The family wishes to give a special Thank You to Evergreen Church in Long Island NY
for your prayers and generosity, also to the staff at Life care Center of Leominster and staff at
