Gary E. Richards, 74, passed away on July 6, 2021 in the comfort of his home.
Gary was born on January 21, 1947 a son of the late Edward and Mary (Todd) Richards.
Gary joined the Marines in October of 1965 where he served his country for 7 years. The last 11 months of which, Gary served in Vietnam, where he was ultimately wounded and honorably discharged. During his active duty, Gary was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Mast, and Rifle Marksman Badge. Gary was qualified for the Marine Corps Rifle team.
Among his many hobbies, Gary was an avid shotgun enthusiast who enjoyed trap and skeet shooting. He was also a talented and skilled pistol and rifle marksman. He will be remembered as a devoted and dedicated husband to his wife Melanie.
Gary leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Melanie (Poirier) Richards; his daughter, Lisa Vuolo (from a previous marriage) and his brother, Tod Richards.
Burial with Military honors will be held on August 31, 2021 at 2PM in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA 01475
