Gail (Kimball) Newton, 82, a longtime resident of Lunenburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021, at The Highlands, Fitchburg MA, surrounded by her loving family.
Gail was born in Pepperell, MA on September 6, 1939, a daughter of the late Paul C. and Virginia J. (Connell) Kimball. She attended Lunenburg High School and was the wife of the late Robert R. Newton who passed away in 1989.
Gail raised her family in Lunenburg, MA and was a longtime parishioner of St. Boniface Church. Gail loved to cook but had a passion for baking. She worked at many fine dining establishments such as the Coach House Inn, the Country Inn at Princeton and was the head baker for many years at the Worcester Country Club where she won awards for her Chocolate Chip Cookies and her amazing Gingerbread houses. For Gail, family always came first, and she held a very special place in her heart for her beloved grandchildren, whom she watched over and cared for.
Growing up Gail was an amazing basketball player and as an adult she was always baking and cooking for her family and friends. She was always making cakes for all of her loved one’s special occasions. Gail and Bob were avid dancers and could stop a crowd with their mesmerizing dance moves. Gail also enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, and playing cribbage, especially when she took the win over her husband.
Gail will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gary E. Newton of Seattle, WA, Greg P. Newton and his wife Jane of Lunenburg, MA, Kimberly Edwards and her husband Richard of Merritt Island, FL and Karen Baker and her late husband Jon Allan of Ashburnham, eight grandchildren, Tara DiBona and her husband Derek, Peter Newton and his wife Kim, Kevin Newton and his wife Maggie, Mikaela Baker, Timothy Baker, Erin Bergfield and her husband Matt, Lauren Conners and Ashlyn Conners; along with seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Jillian, Leah, Tyler, Trevor, Nina and Conner; a sister Jean Sutherland and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband Gail was predeceased by her beloved grandson Jonathan Newton, her brother Daniel Kimball, and her sister Barbara Melhalf. Gail will be sorely missed by all that loved and knew her.
Memorial visitation will be held in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass Ave, Lunenburg, MA 01462 on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 9:00am to 10:00am. Her funeral service will begin at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Page Street, Lunenburg, MA.
