Francis Charles Rheaume

May 2, 1938 ~ May 29, 2022 (age 84)

HUBBARDSTON – Francis Charles “Frannie” Rheaume, 84, affectionately known as “Grumpy,” died after a brief illness on May 29, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Annette Cecile (St. Pierre) Rheaume whom he married on Valentine’s Day 1968.

Frannie was born in Waltham, MA, on May 2, 1938, a son of the late Leo and Mary (Deveau) Rheaume. He was raised in Waltham and moved to Framingham in 1971 to raise his own family. He then moved to Hubbardston to enjoy his retirement years.

For over 25 years, Frannie was a truck driver, but his passion was his time spent as a cook for Tasty Donut in Framingham, for over 15 years. To know him was to love him. He would draw strangers into conversations by complaining about anything from the weather, his back pain, to politics. Frannie had absolutely NO filter. He was known for looking at people and saying, “Boy you’ve gained some weight!”  His wife would give him ‘the look’ before family events and list the litany of things that he was NOT allowed to talk about! Sometimes his honesty was his downfall!

Frannie was often found on the Gardner Municipal Golf Course, his passion after retirement. He even kept on playing after a ‘friend’ of his ran him over with a golf cart! Don’t believe us? We have the shirt with the tire tracks to prove it!

He also loved to cook. You wouldn’t get an “I love you” out of him, but you would get a load of stuffed peppers, meatloaf, or something else delicious. His chili was legendary, just ask the members of the Hubbardston Council on Aging where it would sell out in record time. In his Tasty Donut days, he once gave a man a free meal thinking he was homeless, and it turned out he was the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company! That is how he was, generous, easy-going, gregarious, and kind.

We’re sure his wife will still hear “Hey Hon? Cup of tea!” in her sleep. We assume the first thing his father made him do when they met again was to play a round of cribbage. Frannie HATED cribbage!! We're not sure what his mother said to him. She was famous for calling him and saying “Francis, guess who died?” This time he knew the answer :).

We would love to thank the nurses at Leominster hospital that cared so lovingly for Frannie in his last days and hours. A special shout out to Liz, Shannon, Kristie, Wendy and Bethany. From the last cup of tea that he was able to enjoy to removing that stupid CPAP mask that he hated. The compassion and empathy that you showed, even when Frannie would swat at you (lovingly of course!), meant the world to us and him. Thank you for all you do!

In addition to his wife, Frannie leaves his three children, Raymond M. Rheaume of Russellville, KY, Cynthia J. Baker and her husband, Brian of Dracut, MA and Renee R. Olson and her husband, James of Hubbardston, MA; his six grandchildren, Michelle J. Rheaume and her husband, Samuel Epstein, Jason B. Baker, Kelly A. Baker and her partner, Mark Vagenas, James C. Rheaume and his wife, Sydney, Sarah M. Rheaume and her partner, Gage Bivans and Christian J. Olson; many nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors at Briarwood, friends at Summit Eldercare, his coffee gang at Burger King, one Gorilla, and his recliner.

In addition to his parents, Frannie was predeceased by his brothers, Alphonse Rheaume and Fredrick Rheaume; and his daughter-in-law, Celeste Rheaume.

We are so grateful to have the ability to gather all those dear to Frannie.
