LUNENBURG – Ethel Leona (Dube) Fleming, 78, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2022, at HealthAlliance – Clinton Hospital, Leominster, MA.
Ethel was born on July 8, 1944, in Millbury, MA, daughter of the late Joseph Albert Dube and Laura H. (Lake) Dube Zawalick. She was the beloved wife of James E. “Jeff” Fleming whom she married on November 26, 1966. They had 55 wonderful years of marriage together.
Ethel was raised in Worcester, MA and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1962. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in French Literature from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. After college, she and Jeff lived in Maryland for a few years where Ethel worked for the National Security Agency. After settling in Lunenburg, she worked as Executive Assistant at the family run flooring business, Acme Carpet One, in Lunenburg, MA alongside Jeff until her passing. Ethel was an avid organic gardener, enjoyed ballroom dancing with Jeff, solving word and number puzzles, travel and fine dining. She loved to write letters to those she cared for and had a very charitable heart, sponsoring children from Africa and South America and Native American youth. Ethel especially enjoyed time spent with her family and beloved grandchildren. She will be remembered as compassionate and giving.
In addition to her husband, Ethel is survived by her three children, Steven Fleming and his wife, Donna of Northbridge, MA, Jonathan Fleming and his wife, Elizabeth of Yarmouth, MA and Plymouth, MI and Christopher Fleming and his wife, Danette of Victorville, CA; four grandchildren, Meagan Slone and her husband, Kyle of Davenport, FL, Kyle Fleming of Pawcatuck, CT, Ryan Fleming and his fiancé, Laurissa Dunn of Putnam, CT and Ian Fleming of Plymouth, MI; brother, David Dube of FL; sister, Helen Dube and Raymond “Junior” McBain of Worcester, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her sisters, Judith Murphy, Claudette Dominie and Anita Dube.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 10:00AM-12:00PM in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg, MA 01462.
Her funeral home service will begin at 12:00PM.
Burial will be held at a later date at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA.
