Fitchburg – Ernest W. Maynard, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2022, in Fitchburg Healthcare.
Ernest was born in Cavendish, VT, on May 14, 1935, a son of the late Arthur O. Maynard and Mary Ellen (Hutchinson) Maynard.
Ernest is survived by his four children, Deborah Eaton and her husband Bruce of Fitchburg, Ernest Maynard of Royalston, Joseph Maynard and his wife Cheryl of Fitchburg, and Sherry Maynard of Hubbardston; one brother; Richard Chapman of Ashburnham; his former wife, Jeanne Maynard of Hubbardston; ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ernest was predeceased by six siblings, Florence Martines, Isabelle Stuart, Arthur Maynard, Pauline Harrington, and Joseph St. Aubin.
Ernest honorably and proudly served his country with the United States Air Force for over twenty years. He was a retired Technical Sergeant. Ernest enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and bravely served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Following his discharge, Ernest developed a passion for military vehicles, studying history, especially World War II and antique clocks.
Ernest’s time in the air force brought him to countries over the world, including Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan. Ernest spent time volunteering at the Fitchburg Airport, where he took great pride in landscaping and clearing brush. Always generous with his time, he also volunteered at the Pat Brody Shelter for Cats.
Funeral Services will be held privately.
