Emily Carmela (Casaburi) Hillman

December 14, 1952 ~ November 6, 2021 (age 68)

Obituary

Westminster - Emily Carmela (Casaburi) Hillman, 68, formerly of Pepperell, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and dear friends on the evening of Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Emily was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 14, 1952, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Pozzuoli) Casaburi. She married her husband, Edward G. Hillman on August 23, 1975.

Emily attended Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduating member of the class of 1970. Once Emily and Ed started their family, Emily stayed home to care for her children while Ed worked. As her children grew older, Emily had several jobs in various clerical / administrative / sales positions for various companies. Prior to settling in Pepperell, Emily and Ed lived on Kwajalein for a total of seventeen years.  Throughout their married life together, Ed and Emily also lived in Moorestown, NJ, Groton, MA, Marlborough, MA, and Yonkers, NY. She greatly enjoyed traveling with Ed and her family throughout Micronesia, the United States, and Europe. Emily was excellent at Mahjong and could often be found playing at the Pepperell Senior Center or the Nashua YMCA. She also enjoyed playing rummy and poker with family and friends. Emily, (aka, Powerhouse), also loved to bowl. For the past several years, Emily enjoyed annual Memorial and Labor Day weekend camping trips to Sebago Lake, ME with family and friends. Emily was a true beacon of love and joy to all who knew her.  Those who were close to Emily knew times when she would break out in spontaneous silly karaoke, and when the mood struck her, she would dance like no one was watching (um, Mom, FYI, people were watching).  Some of the most fun and special memories were times when Emily would tell jokes, and she was so hysterical laughing at her own joke, that she would not be able to deliver the punchline.

In addition to her husband of 46 years, Emily will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Daniel Peter Hillman and his wife Nancy Alenda of Telford, PA, Alexandra “Sandy” Sheridan and her husband Derek of Rutland, MA, PO1 James William Hillman, US Navy, and Michael Edward Hillman of Ashburnham, MA; five grandchildren, Rebekah Madeline, Laura Elizabeth, Matthew Ryan, Joseph John Andrew Hillman, and Emma Autumn Sheridan; her sister-in-law, Kathi Seier of Garrison, NY; her brother-in-law, William Hillman and his wife Ellen, of Bedford, NY; her niece, Toni Malon and her husband Rob of Hopewell Junction, NY; many close relatives in Italy; and many, many close friends. Sadly, Emily was predeceased by her great-nephew, Alex Malon and her dear brother-in-law, John Seier.  Emily absolutely adored her husband, her children, and her grandchildren, as well as her extended family and friends.  Nothing brought her greater joy than having all her family and close friends gathered for special get-togethers during the holidays, especially when everyone was gathered around the dinner table.  Mom (or Ma) to her children (including her daughter-in-law and son-in-law), Nonna to her five grandchildren, Emmy-Lou to her sister-in-law, Amy as an endearing pet name to her husband, and Emily, a loving friend to all who knew her:  she will be dearly missed but will remain in the hearts of her family and her many friends.

You are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 2-6 pm and then again on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 9:30-11:30 am in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA.  Following visiting hours, a Christian funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1 Hager Park Road, Westminster, MA at 12:00 pm. A reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Emily’s compassionate hospice nurses: Andy, Helen, Jamie, and Sheila, as well as to Pastor Peter Gregory of Our Savior Lutheran Church for his ministry to Emily and the family.

John F. Masciarelli, James M. Hebert and Terresa Shea, Funeral Directors.
