Obituary

Westminster: Christine (Dail) Wellens, 81, a long-time resident of Westminster, died Monday, June 7, 2021  in HeathAlliance Leominster Hospital  after a brief illness.

  She leaves her husband of 36 1/2 years, Charles Wellens; two daughters, Cindy A. Vincent and Paula C. McGuirk and her husband Patrick all of Westminster; two step-daughters, Alyssa Sury and her husband Chris of Melbourne, Fl and Gretchen Wellens of Wakefield, MA; one brother, Larry Dail of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Flora Lester of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Vincent, and his wife Rebecca, Brian Vincent, Danielle Vincent and Brenden and Riley McGuirk; and three great-grandchildren, Carter and Landon Vincent and Lailah Webb, and many nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by a stepson, Gregory Wellens in 2006, a son-in-law, Bruce Vincent in 2014, a brother, Everett Dail and three sisters, Patsy Quinn, Alice Dail-Page and Doris Staley.

  Mrs. Wellens was employed at the Digital Equipment Co. in Maynard, MA, as a finance manager, retiring in 1993 after 25 years.  After her retirement she went back to college and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Fitchburg State University in 1997.

  She was a long-time active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Fitchburg, where she was a member of the Woman’s Guild and taught Sunday School for many years. She loved her home state of North Carolina and was an avid Tar Heels basketball fan.  Her favorite place to vacation was Surf City, North Carolina where she loved the beach.  She also taught her children and grandchildren how to search the beach and the surf for sharks teeth.  She also attended many yearly family reunions in North Carolina. 

   She was born in Mt. Olive, Duplin County, North Carolina on October 18, 1939. She loved her entire family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.

   Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at home with her creator, Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.   

   Christine’s funeral will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. .at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 750 Rindge Rd., Fitchburg, MA.

  Calling hours will be held at the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main St., Westminster on Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 3-5 p.m.

  Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Renovation Fund, 750 Rindge Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or may be left at the funeral home
