Westminster-Burton Paul Gendron, 79, of Westminster, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at UMass Memorial Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Burt was born in Fitchburg, MA, January 18, 1943, to the late Albert Edgar Gendron and Yvonne Cecile (Poisson) Gendron. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg in 1960 and entered the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Germany and West Pakistan and always talked about the dignitaries he met on the golf course. After serving his country, Burt earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fitchburg State College (now Fitchburg State University).
From college, Burt went directly into sales at Foster Grant selling expandable polystyrene (EPS). His knowledge of plastics took him to many companies and many areas of the country. Over his almost sixty years in the industry, Burt was a national sales manager for Atlantic Richfield, Georgia Pacific, Huntsman Chemical, and Nexkemia. In the 1990s, Burt established his own company, MDG Corporation, and imported EPS materials from overseas. His customers became his friends and still corresponded with him after fifty years.
Burt met the love of his life, Patricia Ann McGee of Leominster, at Mount Watatic where he was a member of the ski patrol and worked as a bar tender. They were married in 1968. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two brothers and their wives, Marc W. Gendron and his wife Margaret (Cackett) of Gardner and Paul A. Gendron and his wife Barbara (Radziewicz) of Kingston, RI. Burt and Pat raised three children and a nephew, Michael Sean Gendron and his wife Misty Marie (Minton), Robert Albert Gendron and his partner Gwendolyn Therese Reimer, Erin Kathleen VanTuyl and her husband Robert Greer VanTuyl, all of Westminster, and nephew Jonathan McGee and his wife Misty (Silva) of Gardner. Burt also has two biological children, Rodney Trussell of Arley, Alabama, and Michelle Swiggart, of Sanford, Florida. Pat and Burt have five grandchildren, Michael Tyler Gendron, Trevor Sean Gendron, Alyssa Marie Gendron, Oliver Paul VanTuyl, and Juliette Patricia Gendron. They also have two step grandchildren, Robert O’Neil VanTuyl, of New York. NY, and John (Jack) Saltonstall VanTuyl, of Marblehead. MA. Burt has a great granddaughter Sadie Jo Trussell of Hartselle, Alabama.
Burt was an avid golfer who belonged to Canterbury Country Club in Marietta, Georgia, Oak Hill in Fitchburg, MA, Westminster Country Club, and Berlin Country Club in Bolton. He and his cousin, Michael S. Gendron of Marshfield, MA, won many events at Oak Hill CC and Canterbury CC. Burt also won a Member Guest at Westminster CC with his father-in-law Bob McGee. He could boast of five holes-in-one. Burt was a member of pool leagues at the St. Joseph Club in Fitchburg, VFW in Westminster, and the Elks in Gardner. His Elks Central Mass Pool Team won the “Cliffy” against the number one team in the league. He and his friend and mentor, Roger Boucher of Fitchburg, continued to play pool weekly at the Westminster Senior and Community Center with other seniors. He was an excellent card player and played at St. Joseph’s Club and the Elks. He belonged to the Elks of Leominster/Fitchburg, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Westminster. Burt enjoyed Wednesdays with his doctor Robert A. Babineau. Committed to his community, he served on the Advisory Board in Westminster for a number of years. Burt and Pat travelled extensively throughout the USA, Europe, and South America. Burt was a remarkable, charismatic individual who was devoted to his wife, children, and those he considered family. If you met him, he considered you part of his family. “Uncle Burt” will be missed by everyone.
His funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10AM in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster. Burial with Military honors will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Narrows Rd., Westminster. There are no calling hours.
