Betty Jane Carbone

May 1, 1936 ~ December 10, 2021 (age 85)

Lunenburg-Betty Jane "BJ" Carbone, 85, of Lunenburg, MA, passed away peacefully on December, 10th in the comfort of her home of 51 years.
Betty was born on May 1st, 1936 to Edward and Gertrude Robinson in Fitchburg, MA.
In her youth, Betty loved horseback riding, music, the beach, camping on the Cape with her parents and consuming many, many books at the Library.
She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1954 where she was a captain of the basketball team as well as a cheer leader. Betty continued her education at Mount Ida College in Newton Center, MA., and eventually finished her education at Fitchburg State College in 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree in History and Social Studies, a Masters Degree in Counseling and her CAGS degree.  In 1959 Betty was vice president of Philodemic Society at Fitchburg Teacher's College.  She was also the business manager for the "Kampus Vue" newspaper from 1957-1959.
After graduation, she worked as a High School teacher in Hartford, CT.
Teaching was momentarily interrupted by marrying her High School sweetheart Roger N. Carbone on July, 8th, 1960 and soon after starting a family with three bouncing boys.
In 1970, Roger and Betty moved from Bellingham, MA. to their dream home in Lunenburg.
In 1975 Betty went back to teaching after receiving a phone call from the local Middle School with a job offer for a new math position.  That would turn into 30 wonderful years of teaching at Turkey Hill Middle School in Lunenburg, MA.  She loved teaching and loved the children.  She was affectionately known as "Mrs. C" by her students, and it was the norm to hear "You were my favorite teacher Mrs. C." for years and years after her retirement.  That made her day, every time.  In her tenure she taught Math, English, Social Studies as well as Computer Science.
Betty retired in 2005 from teaching but continued to tutor middle school children and volunteer at the Lunenburg Public Library for many years.  She loved the sun and spent many a day with a good book on the back porch or by the pool.  Betty walked with friends around the school grounds and visited the Eagle House almost daily.  She loved the beach and visiting Cape Cod in particular.  Music was always part of the household.  Dylan, the Beatles, James Taylor, Springsteen, and Simon & Garfunkel were her favorites.
Betty was a devoted Wife/Mother/Grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by her family.
Craig J. Carbone and Elizabeth Carbone of Lunenburg, Mark L. Carbone of Ringe, NH, and Bruce E. Carbone and Kristina Carbone of Lunenburg.  She was adored by four wonderful grandchildren; Samantha, Maxine, Enzo & Gianna Carbone.  Her sister in-law and life-time friend Joyce Robinson and nephews Scott & Eric Robinson, as well as sister in law Betty Schofield.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Roger N. Carbone and brother Edward T. Robinson Jr.
Lunenburg was not just a place Betty lived, it was a community that lived in her.
