Barbara Cooley Walker, 95, formerly of Cataumet, MA, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, at HealthAlliance – Clinton Hospital, Leominster, MA with her family by her side.
Barbara was born on September 14, 1926, in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Clarence B. and Ida E. (Johnson) Cooley. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald B. Walker.
Barbara was raised in East Longmeadow, MA and graduated in 1944 from Classical High School, Springfield, MA. She went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and History from the University of Massachusetts Amherst on June 6, 1948. Just 20 days later, on June 26, 1948, she married the love of her life, Donald B. Walker. Barbara worked for the Mutual Bank for Savings in Newton and Boston as a bank manager for several years before she retired to Cape Cod. She and Donald enjoyed several intercoastal trips to Florida on their Grand Banks, named the “Loblolly” while living on Cape Cod. Barbara was an avid skier, and skied in Utah at the age of 93. She enjoyed traveling, needlepoint, knitting, reading, feeding and watching birds. She especially enjoyed time spent with her beloved family and friends. Barbara will be remembered as resilient, compassionate, fiercely independent, and loving to all.
She is survived by her three children, Charles C. Walker of Montana and Belchertown, MA, Bruce D. Walker and his wife, Kim of Wellesley, MA and Janet Walker Marshall and her companion, Al Giguere of Fitchburg, MA; five grandchildren, Amy W. Grant and her husband, Robert of Westminster, MA, Chad H. Marshall and his wife, Kassi of Tolland, MA, Sarah I. LaRotonda and her husband, Matthew of Worcester, MA, Benjamin E. Walker and his wife, Jenn of Montana and JD Walker of Cape Cod, MA; three great grandchildren, Kailey, Lily and Madi; and her brother, Bruce W. Cooley of Wilbraham, MA. Barbara is also survived by her beloved friends, Betty Bartlett of Middleton, MA and Janet Rowe Dugan of Athol, Amherst, Wellesley, Cape Cod, MA, and Sarasota, FL.
A Celebration of Life and burial with her husband at the Quabbin Park Cemetery, Ware, MA will be held at a later date.

Barbara’s family would like to thank Benchmark Senior Living at Leominster Crossings for the care and comfort provided to Barbara; it truly felt like home to her and she enjoyed herself while she lived there.
