Edith T. (Deming) Gay, 88, Beloved Mother and Grandmother
Lunenburg-Edith T. (Deming) Gay, 88, died Wednesday , Dec. 18, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late George F. Gay, who died in 1998.
Edith leaves two sons, George H. Gay, of Ashburnham, Stephen F. Gay, and his wife Sandra Shepherd-Gay, of Ashby; five grandchildren, Stacy Fournier, Shaun, Samantha, Justin and Sasha (Alex) Gay; six great-grandchildren; a brother and sister in law, James and Nancy Deming of Gardner, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a brother and sister in law, William and Kay Deming.
She was born in Fitchburg, on November 17, 1925, a daughter of the late James and Julia (Cantillion) Deming. Edith was a lifelong resident of Lunenburg, and worshiped at St. Boniface Church. She was employed by Bay State Curtain for 30 years before her 16 year employment with NEBS. She was a long standing member of the Eagle House in Lunenburg, receiving the Tony the Tiger Award, for the most number of hours volunteered, and served as board member on the Council on Aging for many years. At election time she worked for the Town of Lunenburg registering voters.
Edith was a very active woman, who loved to help and do things for others. She delivered meals on wheels to the homebound. She kept her hands busy with knitting, making mittens and hats for children in Russia, lap robes for veterans, and prayer shawls for children in Africa. Edith was an avid sports fan of all Boston teams and for her grandson Justin's teams, being presented with flowers on Parent's Night, for her dedication. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to take bus trips with the seniors and traveling with her family. She especially cherished her time at the Beach, going annually as a child through her retirement, to Hampton Beach, staying at her seasonal trailer in Seabrook. Edith was an incredible mother and grandmother. She was a light in our life that will be greatly missed , leaving a hole in our family, but will live on in our hearts with fond memories.
Edith's Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, (Dec. 23), in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass Ave. Lunenburg.
Burial will be in the North Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, it was Edith's request for memorial contributions to be made in her name to the Friends of the Eagle House Inc., 25 Memorial Drive, Lunenburg, MA 01462
